Tasting notes: Molasses, 88% Dark Chocolate
Blackout is HATCH’s boldest core coffee, created for drinkers who want depth, body and rich chocolate flavour without sacrificing specialty-grade quality. Built with coffees from Brazil and Colombia, it is roasted to a medium profile that emphasizes sweetness, structure and intensity rather than bright acidity.
Expect a full-bodied, comforting cup with deep notes of molasses and 88% dark chocolate. The low-acidity profile makes Blackout especially satisfying as espresso, where it produces a dense, syrupy shot that stands up beautifully in cappuccinos, lattes and other milk-based drinks. It also works exceptionally well as a strong filter coffee for anyone who prefers a more traditional, chocolate-forward cup.
Blackout is an excellent choice for those who find lighter specialty coffees too delicate or tea-like and want something rich, powerful and unmistakably coffee-forward.
Hatch’s suggested espresso recipe is 18g in and 34g out at 93°C, in approximately 23–28 seconds. It offers a starting point for a concentrated, chocolate-led shot; the same coffee can also be brewed as filter for a fuller cup.
