Blackberry, plum and cherry lead the way in this Washington Merlot from 14 Hands Winery, with a note of mocha rounding out the fruit. Time in French and American oak barrels adds structure and softens the blend, giving the wine an easygoing, approachable character that works with a wide range of dishes. Barbecue ribs, burgers, grilled tri-tip, or spaghetti with red sauce and meatballs all make natural partners. Each bottle holds 750 ml at 13.5% ABV.
Washington state is home for 14 Hands. Sitting between the mountains and the Columbia River, the region's loamy sand and gravel soils demand determined grapevines, and those vines yield the bold, fruit-forward reds the winery is known for. The name itself recalls the wild mustangs that once roamed eastern Washington, horses that stood fourteen hands tall.
